Ok. But I read where Mims contract last year was NOT worded anywhere close to this. So why is the team, front office screwing around.
You are correct, but that's only part of the overall story.

Several teams have begun to add clauses similar to what the Bengals put in to Stewart's contract. It indemnifies them against the player taking unnecessary risks or doing something foolish off the field in their free time.

Basically, it says "If you're going to go mountain bike riding or swimming with sharks or sky diving, and you get injured and can't play, we get part of the money back or don't have to pay you the remainder of your contract, etc..." Depending on how its written.

The difference here with Shemar, is that other teams that have added such language into their contracts have given the players additional incentives to sweeten the deal and off-set the new language. "We get to rescind the remaining two years of your contract if you break your leg hunting Bigfoot but to off-set this clause, you get all your guaranteed money in the first two years of your contract instead of spreading it out over four." Or "We'll pay you an additional $100K per sack for any sacks over 10 in a given year instead of the usual 12."

Things like that.

Unlike other teams, the Bengals aren't offering Shemar any sort of off-setting incentives. They're just shoving a contract in front of him with this new language in it and in typical SoP style(?) saying, "Here, sign this. You're lucky to be playing in the NFL....period."

Of course Stewart's balking. His reasoning is why should I sign a contract without any kind of off-setting incentives when all the other players on the other teams got something?

Like I've written several times before, I don't blame the Bengals for wanting to include such language, the team has a right to protect itself. But why not include something as an incentive when all the other organizations have...?

The Bengals want their cake and to eat it too. Once again your Cincinnati Bengals are the sole team swimming upstream...

Not gonna lie I kinda wish they didn’t get the stadium deal done so I might potentially have the ability to choose a new team

I came to the realization several years ago that nothing meaningful is going to change with this team in the foreseeable future. And by foreseeable future I mean like the next 20-25 years.

Many fans hoped that when SoP finally turned over control of the team to Katie things would improve. There's simply no evidence that's going to happen.

Katie and her husband have been largely in charge of player contracts for some years now. And while substantial deals have been reached with a few key players, for the most part, the old myopic way of doing business remains.

The scouting department remains the tiniest in the league, and by quite a large margin it seems. There is still no true GM nor is there any reason to believe Katie et al' would hire one should she gain control of the organization.

The few changes she has overseen, facility upgrades and team merchandising etc... remain largely window dressing.
New uniforms, a ring of honor, etc... are fan friendly placebos
used mostly to placate a growingly anxious fan base.

Very little real change has occurred. Nor, as I've said, is there any real evidence any major changes are forthcoming. The Bengals will run things the way the Bengals always have. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree is not just a cliché in the Queen City. Its a sports way of life.

I gave up investing too much emotional energy in this team some time ago. That goes for the greater league as well. The NFL is an occasionally pleasant diversion. Something to watch or listen to in the car on Sunday afternoon trips when I'm tired of listening to the wife's yakking.

I don't think I've watched an entire Super Bowl, let alone an entire NFL season, since we lost to the Rams in 2021.

If the Bengals do well....fine. If they continue to stumble and bumble like usual....meh. Its just not worth getting worked up about any more. In fact, it never really was.

No way NCAA let's him play for A&M. If they do expect the NFL to fight back with games on Saturday. No way can they have players they draft going back to college.
