Re: Bengals Related News & Notes
How long va how much is really the question…he keeps talking about wanting long term security but you can reasonably offer him more than 2 more years. 30M is reasonable imo…not treys fault the bungles let this go on too long and his price went up 9M a year
Re: Bengals Related News & Notes
Trey's asking price may have went up but I doubt there are any teams out there that want to pay a 34 year-old (his age if extended 2 more years) DE 30 million a year. I asked before for names of any DE that was effective at 32 in NFL history and received no answer now try to find an effective one at 34.skycruiser wrote: ↑Mon Jun 16, 2025 4:10 pmHow long va how much is really the question…he keeps talking about wanting long term security but you can reasonably offer him more than 2 more years. 30M is reasonable imo…not treys fault the bungles let this go on too long and his price went up 9M a year
The lists of players are Bruce Smith and Reggie White both ended playing days of 20 years ago and more recently to a lesser extent Julius Peppers. I don't think anyone would ever put him into the same category as those 3. And none of them had their best seasons at those advanced ages.
Also don't discount that teams know that Trey is not a very good run defender and very likely will not get better as he ages. There is a reason he is trying so hard to get a contract extension is because he knows at his age based on NFL history the chances of his play dropping off greatly or getting injured are high. If he was confident in his health and play, he would go out at put a big year and then get even a bigger contract.

I saw somewhere that Adam Schefter (don't care enough about the guy to get the spelling right) said the number for Trey is 35 million a year or more. I don't want the Bengals to sign Trey for that kind of money and at this point I'd rather see him sit then screw our cap up with a number like that on an ageing player.

Id like to be an elevator with Schefter and he accidentally catches one in the ear hole. I think hes a pompous asshole. I liked him early on when he was with NFLN. But havent cared much for him since hes moved to espnMeatHeadbengal wrote: ↑Wed Jun 18, 2025 3:32 pmI saw somewhere that Adam Schefter (don't care enough about the guy to get the spelling right) said the number for Trey is 35 million a year or more. I mean serious question. You all know I love to get in here and ness around and act a fool.
But in all honesty, wth is this team doing with Stewart?
This was a sketchy off season anyways. Very sketchy pick and truly a wackadoo draft by the team and now this?

To answer your question; they're doing what they've done several times previously. They're playing contract chicken trying to see who blinks first.Joe Bananas wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 8:59 amBut in all honesty, wth is this team doing with Stewart?

Most likely, the team will eventually add in some compensatory language giving him an accelerated bonus or additional incentives to "sweeten" the deal and he'll sign.
The question is largely a matter of "when?"
Will he lose valuable camp time or perhaps even sit out the entire summer only signing right before the season starts meaning most of the year he'll be useless because he doesn't know the playbook and isn't up the NFL speed?
That's scenario one.
Which means the team ultimately loses because now they're paying a player an entire years salary while only getting maybe a half-seasons use out of him.
The best case scenario is the front office realizes its better for everyone involved to get his ass in camp from day 1 and adds in some additional incentive to get him to sign.
But of course, this is the Bengals we're talking about so you can bet scenario one is the more likely eventuality.

Bengals and Hamilton County have deal in place to extend Paycor Stadium lease.
Hamilton County has approved a tentative framework on a lease extension with the Bengals that will keep the team in Cincinnati through at least 2036. Vote 2-0, one abstain
Proposed costs: $470 million, with $120 million coming from Bengals/NFL and the rest from Hamilton County.”
It just needs to be approved and signed on the Bengals side...

Ok. But I read where Mims contract last year was NOT worded anywhere close to this. So why is the team, front office screwing around. As stated and as you stated, lost time for him is gonna hurt. It hurts a superb or great player. He's neither. From what I also read things have to be on easy mode for him anyway to grasp shit. This is gonna hurt. He had a long ass road to be successful or helpful anyways, let alone holding out. Good grief.Bengals1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 5:48 pmTo answer your question; they're doing what they've done several times previously.
