How many Tackles have they taken in the first round? Folks seem to be focusing in on the word guard when I am talking more of a tackle that will play guard until they transition him into tackle. That's all I'm going to say on this.
I will meet you part way on this...

"If" they were to trade back into the late 20s, I could see them taking a Guard, whether he could transition over to Tackle or not. Especially, as you suggest, they are able to pick up an additional 2nd rounder. Then, again as you mention, use both 2nd rounders on Defense.

We'll just have see what happens on Draft night...
I concede you probably know more about this then I do. I just haven't had a lot of time to do much research on this.

B1 is back... it just feels right

How do we feel about Jihaad Campbell?
I've seen him mocked to us a few times and read about the Parsons comps.
I think I'd take a Micah Parsons-like dude at 17th fo sho...

His shoulder injury scares me.

Dylan @DylanSportsTalk

@JoeGoodberry If these 5 players are available at 17, which do you take?

Kelvin Banks Jr
Walter Nolen
Mike Green
Jihaad Campbell
Malaki Starks

Goodberry @JoeGoodberry

I take Banks.

1) He checks every box
2) You protect Burrow
3) Has OT upside

Gridiron Grading @GridironGrading

Feel like Banks is the better prospect but Nolen at 17 and G at 49 is their most realistic path to adding a quality player at both. The dilemmas of needing starters right away from your draft class.

Me thinks both Goodberry and Gridiron are correct...

I can't stand Badberry, but if Banks is available there at 17 he's a solid pick. I'm not sold on the others although Starks is an interesting take. He never took the next step progression this past season so I think he'd be 3rd out of those listed with Nolen being 2nd. Then Campbell and Green finishing 4th and 5th.

Edit: I would also point out that this is why this franchise failed this offseason so far. They should have filled more needs in FA so that going into the draft we aren't sitting here arguing that we have to take a certain position because of gaps! Same ol' Bengals failures!

I'm coming 'round to the idea of taking a LB with the first pick if either of the top two are still on the board.

It comes down to having the 2nd best LB rather than the 4th best DL. Then use our 2nd round pick on a D-linemen, either DT or DE, whichever position has the better player left.

Take a true OG in the 3rd. I don't want some Tackle then try to convert him. I want someone who's comfortable playing Guard from the get-go. Let Ford hold down the spot for the first 4-5 games and then let our rookie take over.

Take another pass rusher, DL or LB in the 4th, RB in the 5th and PBA in the 6th.

That's a draft I could live with...

glad you're back B1! we've missed your aura of positivity. just not the same without you around here man

I haven't had much time at all to look at draft stuff, but the limited amount I've checked out has me power ranking more in tiers of what positions need addressed the most

1. Jihaad Campbell - love the dudes versatility and what he could bring to the D from multiple aspects (coverage, blitzing, etc)
2. Derek Harmon or Walter Nolen- need to get some interior pass rush going in a big way
3. Kelvin Banks, Josh Simmons, or Donovan Jackson- Banks is a beast but will probably be gone, Simmons would have been a top 10 pick without injury, and jackson was the best OG in the country before swinging to tackle and playing really well. high for a guard but has so much versatility
4. Mykel Williams or Nick Esomething- wouldn't hate either of these picks but Safety is far from the highest priority
5. Take your pick of the mid DE's- feels like with Ossai back and wasting a pick on Murphy this is less of a priority and could be a round 2-3 guy with the depth at DE unless a top guy falls. avoid mike green outside of the first 2 rounds

so there is 8-10 guys that could immediately come in and be starters, which is what we need in round 1 (and 2-3 for that matter)

other random thoughts:

-with the few amount of picks we have I can see us making multiple trades much to our frustration
-someone will jump in front of us for "the guy" and we'll end up trading back
-the guys that seem like no brainer bengals (tate ratledge, jack sawyer, etc) will get snatched before we have a chance
-no character issue guys will get drafted. Burton will have them gun shy and we'll go back to captain type players
