Re: Bengals Related News & Notes
I'm all for Pollack and Anarumo at this point. Someone has to take the fall for our inability to develop the players we draft.
OLine drafted since Pollack's first tenure in 2018:
Billy Price (1st)
Rod Taylor (7th)
Jonah Williams (1st)
Michael Jordan (4th)
Hakeem Adeniji (6th)
Jackson Carman (2nd)
D'Ante Smith (4th)
Trey Hill (6th)
Cordell Volson (4th)
Amarius Mims (1st)
Matt Lee (7th)
Of those, Jonah Williams was serviceable but not worth retaining. The rest (minus Mims and Lee who are too soon to judge) have not developed.
Yes, we know we're undermanned in the talent evaluation department, but at some point, this failure to develop the players we drafted led to us having to replace all 5 offensive lineman when Burrow got hurt, which led to us having to pay less attention to the Defense in Free Agency.
As for the defense, just looking at top 3 round picks, we've failed to develop:
Miles Murphy (1st)
DJ Turner (2nd)
Jordan Battle (3rd)
Dax Hill (1st)
Cam Taylor-Britt (2nd)
Zachary Carter (3rd)
Joseph Ossai (3rd)
We thought we could let guys leave because we trusted that we'd develop our draft picks and we didn't. Our coaches are involved in talent evaluation, so you can't just call out the front office (though they deserve consequences too).

Fine, its a start. But we lost at least a couple of games because of ZT. I would have gone the extra mile and just shit canned ZT as well and made Pitcher the coach. He's going to get multiple looks this offseason anyway. But after living thru the Marvin years we know that SoP likes consistency in the staff.
You guys are going go be severely disappointed at the team they've put together this year. Severely disappointed. - Joe Bananas 8/18/2025
Re: Bengals Related News & Notes
I agree I think we lost 2 games due to terrible play calls by ZT. We're awful on 4th down. From afar, his record makes firing him look unthinkable. We had a winning record even last year when Burrow was hurt. For me, the only person's opinion on ZT I care about is Burrow's. If Burrow wants him to stay, I'm fine with it for another year given the changes we made.

I dont pretend to know more about football than Zac Taylor, but when he makes in-game decisions that boggle my mind... and then all the talking heads agree it was a bad decision.... then we may have a problem.
I've said it for years.... winning DESPITE zac taylor and not BECAUSE of him.

whoa big news they cleaned house…bigger news that ace popped in!
Every one of these moves was necessary and should have happened in season.
The DC and OL role will be highly coveted. We should get some awesome talent

I would say coaching players up is going to be the defensive position coaches. If you look at our D-line, they literally regressed, Ossi had a lot of promise and showed a lot of talent while here but only got worse. Murphy, if you watch him has an amazing motor and should be better then he's played. His pressure rating on QB's is super high but can't finish, that's 100% the position coach and not teaching him how to finish. I also think some of these defensive picks were front office and not Lou. Just like I know for a fact that Carmon was not someone Pollack ever wanted. I think the front really screws up a lot of these picks by not listening to our coaches.Jmble wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 12:12 pmReading Paul Dehner today, he brought up that Lou was handed nine top 100 draft picks in the last four years. You can say what you want about scouting, but somebody should have hit if not multiple players. Is it possible that Lou is a great scheme guy, but not so much at coaching young players up? Maybe he was handed some good defensive players that he was able to work with, but as they have been let go, he hasn't been able to coach up the young players to replace them?MeatHeadbengal wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:20 amI agree with Pollack, I feel like he was the main reason behind the Oline issues. Don't get me wrong he's better than what we had at the time but he wasn't the long term answer. I don't 100% agree with Lou but something had to change. However with a DC chance you might as well mark up the vast majority of our draft picks being Defesive and rightfully so.
Just a thought. This year was historically bad though. I think a full turnover is the right thing to do.

Agree! I've been saying this. No development and players have regressed.MeatHeadbengal wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 7:49 pmI would say coaching players up is going to be the defensive position coaches. I'm still in love with Dax Hill. They have absolutely ruined this kid. No development. Best athlete in team and they can't find a spot for him? Even if you don't think a great player will fit your scheme then do not draft him! Draft players you don't have to change. Draft players to play their strengths. Don't draft players saying well I can make their weakness a strength....NO you cannot!
Dax Hill, Carmen, Murphy and a few others are why we are sitting home this playoff weekend! Early round draft picks need to stick in order for a team to become super competitive!
I was crazy back when being crazy really meant something.

I think Murphy fits our system, he's a bigger, stronger, fast, younger Sam Hubbard!Joe Bananas wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 4:31 pmAgree! I've been saying this.
