2023 Off-season thread
Re: 2023 Off-season thread
There is one constant in yesterday's Super Bowl that has everyone talking. The local Cincinnati sports media was tweeting about it throughout the game.
Both teams have excellent, not adequate, Offensive Lines.
"Give Burrow KC's O-line and he'd pass for 500 yards..."
I must have read that and similar quotes from half a dozen Cincy sports writers yesterday.
And they're right.
I know we have key players to extend and there's only so much money to go around. But we have to find a way to improve our O-line this offseason. Whether through Free Agency or high draft picks, we need another starting Guard and at least two better back up Tackles.
We can't go into the 2023 season with the status quo. If we do, we'll be on the outside looking in for next year's Super Bowl too...

Then it'll have to be through development, the draft or just pure luck. I say this because every year I make fun of Hobson about us being bankrupt when it comes time for free agency. But this year when he states that it'll actually be dam near close. We have ALOT of contracts to sort through. Tons of money is going to be spent on our own players and rightfully so. There's not going to be alot of money left for a 12 to 13 mill a year olinemen to bring in. Maybe it'll be a trade or so. Dunno. But I don't expect this team to spend alot of money in free agency unless it's our own guys.Bengals1 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 2:11 pmThere is one constant in yesterday's Super Bowl that has everyone talking. I was crazy back when being crazy really meant something.

Cincinnati Bengals @Bengals
We have acquired CB Chris Lammons on waivers from Kansas City.

From Ian Rappaport:
Looks like we're getting the band back together for another year. The #AZCardinals are targeting #Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon as their new head coach, sources say. They’ll aim to work out a deal to lock him in. But after several weeks of searching, they’ve found their guy.

I hate it for the assist coaches that were turned down but absolutely love it for us and the team!Jmble wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 2:03 pmFrom Ian Rappaport:

Locked on Bengals eluded to this over the weekend, I posted a video of it earlier. Sad that our guys didn't get a shot but at the same time I'm very happy we keep them for 1 more year. This gives Zach time to prepare for them to leave next year.Jmble wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 2:03 pmFrom Ian Rappaport:

Before I ask this, I am 100 percent sure that the Bengals wouldn't do this, but since he made the tweet.
Knowing how close we are right now, would you give up two first round picks (and maybe more) to get Tristan Wirfs?Blake Jewell
@BlakeJewellNFL
It might be totally unrealistic, but if I’m the Bengals I’m calling the Bucs and seeing if they have a price tag on Tristan Wirfs

Question - do we own any rights to Collins? Can we throw him into a trade plus a pick kind of deal?
I'm still sort of torn on Collins. He wasnt "bad". But it took him a while to acclimate and then he gets hurt. It was a serious injury, not just Collins wanting to milk an injury. So I think there is a solid chance he comes back next season and falls right into the mix again as a solid performer.
You guys are going go be severely disappointed at the team they've put together this year. Severely disappointed. - Joe Bananas 8/18/2025
Re: 2023 Off-season thread
That was the full contract for Wirfs.
2023 is the last year on his deal. He's a 5.2 mil cap hit for 2023. He has a Club Option salary of 18.2 mil if the Bucs pick up the fifth year.
The thought is with Tampa possibly rebuilding, they'd rather have the draft picks than pick up an 18 million dollar option on Wirfs.
