FWIW, ESPN is reporting Andy asked for his release.
Yes, that's what Dehner is reporting too.

It's nice to see the team take his situation into consideration and not hold onto him trying to eek out a deal that might mean he has to stay on the roster through the summer.

Show's the team respects him both as a player and a human being.

From Dehner just now...

Paul Dehner Jr. (@pauldehnerjr) Tweeted:
The #Bengals were very close to trading Andy Dalton to Chicago in March.
Dalton still participated in open of virtual meetings this week because he's a total pro.

But, the QB sought clarity.

Makes you wonder what the Bears offered.... :?

Sad day...despite my bi-polar love/hate affair with Andy the QB, Andy the human being is one of the best cincy sports figures of all time. What a great Christian role model that did an incredible amount for the gospel and the community. I'll always keep the #14 jersey hanging in the closet

guessing that he'll go to NE and win a superbowl...

Sad day I think, he was a good player and is a great human being. I wish him nothing but good luck.

And, as I just saw reminded by Paul Daugherty: He should be remembered as the guy who led the team to its longest stretch of sustained success in the team’s history.

Yes, Andy was a better than average QB but an even better human being from all reports.

So if his contract was untradeable, and Andy finds himself having to take a deal at 50% plus playing time incentives to be a backup, shouldnt we have just kept him here? I know Andy wants to play and start, but he simply got squeezed by the market and his contract. He isn't going to the Pats, thats certain given their cap space. I suppose they could cut a few folks, but not BB's style. His only other real option would be Jax and they seem to be stocking up on players, not QBs. Dallas is being tossed around too but Jerry knows that Dak is putting butts in seats. No way he pulls in Dalton and runs the riak of another 9-7 playoff miss.

Andy is stuck, as much as I hate it for him, until somebody gets hurt.
You guys are going go be severely disappointed at the team they've put together this year. Severely disappointed. - Joe Bananas 8/18/2025
