Re: Training Camp Thread 2026
From Paul Dehner Jr's column today...
Should there be concern about Orlando Brown Jr.?
The Bengals extended Brown this offseason, adding two years and $32 million to his contract that was set to expire after this year. He’s held down the left tackle spot since signing from the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency in 2023. Brown was a captain and key cog in the continuity the Bengals are thrilled to boast with all five starters back for the first time in Burrow’s career.
Yet, we’ve seen rough moments for Brown getting beat around the edge during training camp by backups Cashius Howell and Cedric Johnson, among others. Those moments planted a seed, but the benefit of the doubt is undeniably given to the 30-year-old four-time Pro Bowler.
On the second drive Thursday, that seed sprouted above the soil. Eric O’Neill, an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers, sprinted around the edge and beat Brown handily on third down, hitting Burrow square in the back as he looked to throw. It was the biggest hit of the night on the star quarterback, even greater than the sack that killed the first drive.
“It’s never fun. That’s not what we wanted to happen,” Taylor said of Burrow taking two hits. “But, again, we’ll continue to improve.”
It’s not that Brown isn’t allowed to get beat on a rep. Or that anybody should be overreacting to preseason football. But this wasn’t Myles Garrett or Trey Hendrickson. This was a 23-year-old kid who transferred from James Madison to Rutgers and only managed 2.5 sacks last year for the Scarlet Knights. He can’t be beating the starting left tackle clean around the edge on third-and-4.
This isn’t saying the Bengals need to bench Brown or reconsider available free agents, but periodic struggles in camp and this ugly rep against O’Neill leading to Burrow’s hit broaches the question: What is going on with the Bengals’ left tackle?

I have said it a few times over the past few years Brown is one of the laziest players I have ever seen in the NFL.
Re: Training Camp Thread 2026
So can we all agree that Colbie Young is going to be this year's training camp darling? Can't wait for him to make the team as the fifth receiver and see about ten snaps all year.
I'm not going to overreact to anything good or bad in the preseason. I've learned my lesson. The offense is going to be fine whether OBJ is good or not. I've seen enough to know that this offense can win with a bad offensive line, and I don't think OBJ is terrible. I just think he may have lost a step. I may overreact a little more to his play if we see more of it during the preseason. Joe was under center for 7 of 13 snaps. We know that's not where he cooks. They are trying to work it into the offense more, but I imagine they will still be playing mostly out of the shotgun where they have had plenty of success. This season's success is still going to be centered around whether the Defense can keep the other team from scoring as much.
I'm liking their chances. I've seen nothing but good things from the Linebackers so far. I'm not going to overreact to that either, but I always thought Knight still had some possibility for improvement this season. I won't believe Carter has improved until I see it during a real game. We may have hit a homerun (or at least a solid double) with Cashius Howell. We'll see how he translates in the regular season, but I like what I've seen. Dexter Lawrence seems like he is coming in as advertised. I can't believe how big that guy is.
I'm still optimistic about this year until they give me a real reason to worry.

I'm not so sure OBJ has lost a step as much as he just seems lazy. I saw him take plays off last season. There were slow motion replays where he looked like he just wasn't even trying. To be fair, his play did improve later last season.Jmble wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 9:17 amThe offense is going to be fine whether OBJ is good or not. Hopefully, if we get off to a fast start his inner fire will get lit and stay lit throughout the season. We'll see...

The pre-season game against the Eagles is on live here in Hooterville. First time I've had a chance to see them live and not just game highlights.
I wish Burrow would have gotten a series or two.
Tackling looks better so far. Not perfect, but better.
We're really deep at WR.
