At least we are not Cleveland fans.
I understand what you're getting at, that things could always be worse. But I'm not sure i agree with that sentiment. Not necessarily in our case at least.
Is it better to go into a season with such a crummy team you have no realistic hope or is it worse to have an actual contender to root for but be just short in critical areas and your teams management won't pay to fix it...?
I could make an argument that whatever happens this coming season, Browns fans won't be disappointed because they knew going in wins would be scarce.
While Bengal fans will agonize over every 31 - 34 loss that could have gone differently if we'd just made one more stop on defense.
Browns fans know they're looking at a really high draft pick next year that might help turn the situation around in Cleveland.
Bengal fans know we'll probably win just enough games to finish in the middle of the league and be left with the 16th or 17th pick. (Which we'll probably use on a TE

)
Being perpetually one or two key players away from actually contending for a Super Bowl has its own misery.
I get what you are saying but I would rather have a little hope than no hope.

I see what you all are saying, I however see that they are trying to do things differently. This is a business and they just can't go out and pay Trey what he's asking because of his age, and frankly he agreed to the first extension so this situation is 100% on him. I would also say if he's asking for more than 30 million a year which it seems like Cinci's already offered than that's over paying. Sure he's a good player but again I go back to this is a business and that would be a very stupid business decision.
On the aspect of hope I'm with the "Tis better to have loved and lost" camp. I stay very positive and most of ya'll know this. Will it hurt at the end of the season and they suck sure, but they are playing starters, they paid who they thought were there key players. They are looking at all alternatives at the G spot since the Draft didn't fall their way. Let's see what the product on the field is first before we just line up and jump off that cliff.

I wasn't referring to Trey specifically, although I can see where you might have read it that way.
I was more referring to the lack of much improvement on the defense as a whole.

Lack of improvement is a fancy way of saying we’re way worse on D than last year

I wouldn't agree with that either. We'll get a few injured players back on the line and despite the troubled pre-camp hold out Stewart seems to be the real deal.
Our second round LB, Knight II has looked good in camp too.
The question is, is this along with new coaches, going to be enough...? We'll see...

I would at the very least take a peek at this guy...

The #Patriots have waived G Layden Robinson — their 4th-round pick just last year out of Texas A&M.

Mike Reiss @MikeReiss
Guard Layden Robinson, the 2024 fourth-round pick, has been waived/injured by the Patriots, the team announces.
Made 11 starts last year — six on the right side, five on the left side.
Fit the prior scheme more so than the current scheme.

Rumors are that Mc Jackson, 3rd rd pick last year may be cut. According to twitter....
I really hope not. If so this just goes with my believe that our drafting has been horrendous. You dont cut a 3rd rd pick after one season. If you do then again, you dont know what you're doing during draft time.
I was crazy back when being crazy really meant something.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Dolphins have informed veteran cornerback Mike Hilton of his release, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.
