Shemar Stewart’s father: “not a person in this world would sign a contract stating that if you do something wrong this year the company you work for can take the remaining 4-5 years of your contract.......especially when the person has had 0 infractions for 21 years”
Re: Bengals Related News & Notes
I'm actually more concerned about the Stewart situation than I am the Hendrickson situation.
Trey just feels like an old school holdout. I feel like they will come to some sort of agreement by game one that will have him playing the season. Unfortunately we will just have to hear about it all Summer long.
The Stewart thing is weird. Like Mike has just decided to draw a line in the sand about these new clauses which he's never given before and apparently the rest of the league doesn't do. Unlike Trey, Stewart has his whole career in front of him. Nothing stopping him from deciding not to play and reentering the draft next year after playing a year in the XFL or something.

My understanding, from media articles I've read online, is that while other clubs have begun putting similar language into their contracts, they've off-set this by giving incentives.Jmble wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 11:50 amThe Stewart thing is weird. Excellerated bonuses, greater guarantees, etc...
The Bengals have not offered such incentives in Stewart's contract. They want him to sign it sans additional incentives.
If these reports are correct, then yes, the Bengals are entering new ground here.

So it is like saying you are getting off an airplane after it lands at the airport.Bengals1 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 9:37 amskycruiser wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 9:27 amstewart has now left training camp

Cincinnati’s unsigned first-round draft pick Shemar Stewart now has left mandatory minicamp, per source. Stewart had been attending team activities, but without a signed contract and with the Bengals asking for certain clauses, no longer.
Jay Morrison @ByJayMorrison
For context, mandatory minicamp ends - and summer break begins - after practice is over at 10 am.
There are no significant post-practice meetings or anything he would be missing.
Announcing his departure is just a further statement on his frustration, that’s all.

God I hate it when parents get involved in their adult children's professional lives. Let the kid handle it on their own. Nearly every time they harm the kid and if the kid can't handle this without daddy getting involved it makes me question if he can handle being an NFL player.Bengals1 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 11:45 amShemar Stewart’s father: “not a person in this world would sign a contract stating that if you do something wrong this year the company you work for can take the remaining 4-5 years of your contract.......especially when the person has had 0 infractions for 21 years”
Also, Daddy lots of contracts in the business world are set up exactly this way if you do something wrong, they will fire you for cause and if you had a contract, you will not be paid out.

I think he left slightly ahead of the other players because he wasn't in uniform, and the press is blowing it up into some kind of diss.
Re: Bengals Related News & Notes
Once again, it's not just that other teams have put similar language in their contracts. According to reports from various sports writers, these other teams have sweetened their deals by throwing in excellerated bonuses and/or guaranteed monies, etc...
How would you react if Ace offered you a contract to post here at OSF and it had a clause that if you did something he didn't approve of off site it gave him the right to void the contract immediately?
And when you asked him if he made Meat, Jmble and B1 sign a similar contract with similar language he said, "They were reluctant at first, but I gave them some incentives and Jmble and B1 signed immediately. Meat just made an X"
"I'm not offering you that deal though...."

The clause that is in this contract isn't normal and that's why Shemar Stewart is objecting the way he is.. The Bengals need him as a player and they already don't have Trey Hendrickson in there.

I was pointing out that he said not one person would sign a contract stating that but in the business world contracts are signed like that everyday. I am not taking sides and was more on Stewart's side until I saw he had an overinvolved parent makes me more inclined to think Stewart (and his daddy) are part of the problem.Bengals1 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 4:10 pmOnce again, it's not just that other teams have put similar language in their contracts. Told people not to pick this bum. He's a human cause I said hes a bum! He ain't gonna be worth a plug fuck by mid season. Mark my words.
So basically we did nothing in the off season to improve amd drafted a bum, to go along with Murphy, and 2 LBs who might start or play and a 3rd string RB
We may very well finish 4th is Pitt and Cle have good years.

I was crazy back when being crazy really meant something.
