I go out to a business dinner for four hours and you guys let this day turn to shit. Honestly, I'm stunned about CJ. I can only assume they are looking purely at production and not character and they think they can replace his production on the cheap. This one is gonna sting.
You guys are going go be severely disappointed at the team they've put together this year. Severely disappointed. - Joe Bananas 8/18/2025

I tend to agree. Character and locker room presence are important but production on the field and affordability have to come first.stripesincarolina wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 9:44 pmI go out to a business dinner for four hours and you guys let this day turn to shit. They're making a financial calculation they can replace his production on the field for less and have more money to sign additional players.
We'll see....

Re: Bengal Transactions
This is a TE poor draft, imo. The number 1 ranked TE this year is Trey McBride. North Dak St. He had 1 TD last year only. And there's not much left in FA other than Conklin, Everett and maybe few others. Even in the draft or FA we're not and no one is gonna get that solid number 1 TE, cause they aren't any.Bengals1 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 10:16 pmI tend to agree. Re: Bengal Transactions
Well I might be in the minority here then.
Did I want them to resign CJ, sure. However I am going to say something I never thought I would... I trust the front office!
So we know CJ was a good locker room guy, absolutely but everything I see and hear is that we have very many in the locker room who are and although they might shy away from the public TV appearances etc, nevertheless they have a positive effect in the locker room.
CJ is a decent TE but by no means great, he had one amazing game this year but in many actual games was not a big factor. What was a BIG factor is the oline and they appear to be attacking the weakness which I am very happy with. Without CJ last year I say we still have the same year (give or take) with a decent oline we are still drunk on champagne from our SB win.
I have a feeling that the front office has a plan to replace CJ but would be ok if this is a serviceable cheap option or indeed the nuclear option of a one year contract with Gronk.
Whatever the case I wait patiently for the next move, always bearing in mind every other year we would have done NOTHING yet.

I'm prejudice but....
Jeremy Ruckert, TE, Ohio State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 252.
Projected 40 Time: 4.75.
Projected Round (2022): 3-5.
Ruckert showed some nice red-zone ability against Penn State and Rutgers, but Ohio State featured its wide receivers in the passing game rather than the tight ends. Still, Ruckert was graded high by the advance scouts for the 2022 NFL Draft, and they really like his skill set of size, speed and athleticism.
Ruckert flashed some ability during his sophomore year and was a nice red-zone contributor for the Buckeyes. He also has quality size to be a blocker, so the ability is there for Ruckert to become a prospect with three-down starter potential.

Most of us watched this kid a lot over the past years and honestly his hands are suspect. I know they had a lot of weapons there at OSU but I just don't ever remember him making any big plays.Bengals1 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 8:01 amI'm prejudice but....

Analyzing the Bengals' Options at Tight End With C.J. Uzomah Headed to the New York Jets
Cincinnati has a hole in their starting lineup following Uzomah's departure.
CINCINNATI — C.J. Uzomah agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract with the New York Jets on Monday. The 29-year-old emerged as a leader for the Bengals in 2021 and set career-highs in receptions (49), receiving yards (493) and touchdowns (5).
With Uzomah headed to New York, the Bengals have a hole at tight end.
They have Drew Sample, Mitch Wilcox and Thaddeus Moss on the roster, but they need to add a proven player to fill Uzomah's spot.
Here's a list of the top free agent tight ends the Bengals could target in free agency....
Rob Gronkowski — Gronk would be a great fit, but he'll end up re-signing in Tampa Bay and spending another season with Tom Brady.
Gerald Everett — Everett is a natural replacement. He had 48 receptions for 478 yards and four touchdowns for the Seahawks last season. He's athletic, only 27-years-old and he was in Los Angeles with Zac Taylor as a member of the Rams.
O.J. Howard — Speaking of young and athletic, Howard certainly fits that description. The former first round pick had 14 receptions for 135 yards and one touchdown last season in a limited role with the Buccaneers. The Bengals could offer him a bigger role in a pass heavy offense. A one-year prove it deal could make sense for both sides.
Robert Tonyan — Tonyan is another option for Cincinnati. He had 18 receptions for 204 yards and one touchdown in eight games for the Packers in 2021. Health is a concern since he's coming off of a torn ACL, but Tonyan showed he's capable of posting big numbers in the passing game. He had 11 touchdown receptions in 2020 and is expected to be fully recovered for the start of the regular season.
Tyler Conklin — He had 61 receptions for 593 yards and three touchdowns last season for the Vikings. He's only 26-years-old and could stabilize the tight end position for the Bengals for the foreseeable future.
Other Options: Maxx Williams, Kyle Rudolph, Anthony Firkser, Jared Cook and Eric Ebron.

Gronk, Everett, Conklin
I do not want Oj freaken Howard.
He played with Brady and only managed like 134 yards total all year!?
Hell keep Sample for that. He can do better than OJ
