I usually ignore Hobson's columns as he's much too Rah Rah Go Team! for me as well as always carrying the company line that we're too poor to pay anyone so the fans should just sit down and shut up about us signing any free agents yadda....yadda...yadda.
But this article does scare me a bit. If it were written by any other beat writer it'd scare me a whole lot more but like I said, I tend to take Hobslob with a large nugget of salt....

So is our priority getting more protection for our franchise QB? No. According to Hobson, we already have a very talented offensive line right now and the problem wasn't the OL talent, or lack thereof, but rather the scheme employed. He claims Price is a good center, so no big deal if Hopkins isn't ready for game 1 (We'll see). Our priority for FA and the draft is all defense all day long.
Now I get that our D sucked bigtime, but here's the thing; our D was decimated by injuries, most notably the highly paid 2019 free agents, and we have a promising group of young linebackers that are seemingly getting better, whereas we already know what we have for the most part along our O-line. Put another way, the D should (barring injuries again) be much better in 2021 assuming we re-sign WJ3 and Lawson; while the OL isn't gonna get any better on its own obviously.
And of course we have a franchise QB recovering from a shredded knee.
So while I understand our defense could still use some tweaking, we first and foremost need to give Burrow the tools he needs to be the star he certainly can be, starting with protecting him so he is actually in our games instead of watching them on TV!
Since we need to give him that protection both now and for the next decade or more, that means prioritizing OL both in FA (for now) and in the draft (the future)
That doesn't mean I want us to ignore the D in FA and/or the draft - it's just priority 2 rather than priority 1 in both cases. And really, to be more specific, the D priority is a pass rushing DE, though we could use another DT as well.
Bottom line: I think Hobson is still an idiot. No surprises there.

Ok, while I agree our O-line needs work and getting a good RT should be a priority, I will however will be open minded on Price. I think Turner was a horrible coach and everything I've heard about Price is he's got a great attitude and a great team guy. Give him a shot with our New O-line coach and see what happens.Bengals1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 7:34 pmI usually ignore Hobson's columns as he's much too Rah Rah Go Team! for me as well as always carrying the company line that we're too poor to pay anyone so the fans should just sit down and shut up about us signing any free agents yadda....yadda...yadda.![]()

Hobsons a dumbfck . The entire football world knows our O-line sucked ass alllll year. Everyone, but him. I swear I stopped reading his shit 7 or 8 years ago. I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I was even on the site. With social media and so much information on it it used to take him 4 to 5 days to even write what others were writing a week before him. Just don't or never cared for his stuff. He's a yes man and only writes to appease mikey boy.Bengals1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 7:34 pmI usually ignore Hobson's columns as he's much too Rah Rah Go Team! for me as well as always carrying the company line that we're too poor to pay anyone so the fans should just sit down and shut up about us signing any free agents yadda....yadda...yadda.![]()

In no way shape or form in Green the 22nd top free agent. I am not sure if he is in the top 100.
Bengals land three players on ESPN’s top 50 free agents

The Cincinnati Bengals have a host of free agents headed for the open market this offseason.
Three of them figure to spark some interesting conversations inside Paul Brown Stadium and project to have plenty of logical suitors.
Those three names — Carl Lawson, William Jackson and A.J. Green — just earned spots on a free agency top 50 list by ESPN’s Kevin Seifert.
Interestingly, the list has Green as the No. 22 free agent outright, while Jackson checks in at No. 40. Carl Lawson slots at No. 46 with the following explanation:
“Lawson has never matched the production of his rookie season, when he recorded 8.5 sacks after the Bengals made him a fourth-round draft pick in 2017. But he became a starter in 2020, in conjunction with the departure of veteran Carlos Dunlap, and turned in the kind of performance that will conjure significant interest if he gets into the market. ESPN tracked him with a pressure rate of 10.1%, good for 16th best in the league.”
Funnily enough, it’s probably Lawson that the Bengals will work hardest to bring back because the pass rush is in such a sour state. And some advanced metrics show just how important he is to the Bengals because of the way he creates sacks for other defenders.
Green, meanwhile, figures to hit the open market after doing little on his costly franchise tag. The veteran wideout didn’t even chart on PFF’s top 100 list, while Lawson and Jackson had top-30 slots.
Regardless of ranking, it’s clear the Bengals have some premium outgoing free agents other teams will pursue if they don’t wrap them up.

Bengals rolled over into 2021 all of their unused $10.79M from 2020. As Field noted, this rollover amount will be added to the league wide unadjusted Cap Number (perhaps $180M, but no lower than $175M) to establish the Bengals' adjusted Cap Number for 2021.

Paul Dehner just retweeted the Bengals Tweeting three eyeball emojis with his tweet saying

Can't imagine what that would be about.I don’t know that I have the energy for @Bengals participating in #VagueEyeballEmojiSZN today.
