Quarterback Brandon Allen on his future: "I would love to come back. I think this organization is on the right track and I think Zac has it going in the right direction." Added that he'd love to be here to see it come full circle.
I'm fine with it. I'd love to get an All Pro QB as a backup but we know that isn't going to happen. Allen has performed fine. His PFF Grade is 64.8 in 234 snaps.
The snap minimum to be considered is somewhere around 284. That's the lowest number of snaps showing up
If you ignore snap minimums, he is tied for 32nd in the league in PFF grades. What more can you ask for out of a backup QB?
The only backups graded ahead of him who have played as many snaps as him are Alex Smith (I don't really consider him a backup), Taysom Hill, and Andy Dalton.

Bengals can take advantage of some Cap accouting rules and create a little more Cap Room in 2021 by extending some players this week. For any extension reached prior to the end of the regular season, any signing bonus will be prorated starting with the current 2020 Cap year.

The important word is can. The will part is unlikely.

The team actually does this all the time, most recently with Hopkins.

That's a little troublesome. Hard to imagine him getting back in time for next season. Not impossible as players have shown in the past, but it's pretty late in the year for that injury.
The guy isn't great, but he's good enough that Center seems like a position we could leave in place while upgrading the Guard Positions.
He's gradually improved every year but one looking at PFF Scores
2016 - 56.5
2017 - 60.2
2018 - 60.0
2019 - 62.4
2020 - 63.8

I give up. Curse is real and has never been stronger. We have the skill position weapons and can't find a team to play with them. It's like having a magazine full of 9mm zombie rounds in the middle of the apocalypse and not having the Glock to fire them. It's gonna end badly.
You guys are going go be severely disappointed at the team they've put together this year. Severely disappointed. - Joe Bananas 8/18/2025

Adam Rittenberg (@ESPNRittenberg)
Sources: The #Bengals are promoting Troy Walters to wide receivers coach. Walters served as the Bengals’ assistant wide receivers coach this past season. Former offensive coordinator at #Nebraska and #UCF under Scott Frost.
