ESPN posted their first Power Rankings today.
I will start by saying these mean nothing. I know they mean nothing. Doesn't mean we can't talk about them.
Bengals come in at 30. Only Washington and Jacksonville are ranked lower.
I know I'm too close to be unbiased, but 30 seems low. I feel like they've improved enough to at least get into the 22-26 range in the preseason rankings. Obviously once the season starts the rankings will adjust based on how we play but damn them.
On the plus side, everyone thought the Reds were going to be good this year and we all see how that has turned out. So maybe it's better to start at the bottom and work your way up.

He was a preseason darling last year. Just didn't live up to the hype. I just looked up his stats in 2019, he played in 10 games and had a total of 82 yards receiving. With a healthy(ish) AJ Green and the drafting of Tee Higgins I just think he was expendable. He wasn't going to make the team over Erickson or Tate.

I think we were better than our record last year, and I think we've taken steps to improve this year. Many of us are taking the over on 5.5 wins for the season, and I guarantee there are more than two teams who won't win six games this year. But whatever. "The Bengals suck" is an easy, lazy take that no one except Bengals fans will even bat an eye at.Jmble wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 4:12 pmESPN posted their first Power Rankings today.

Based on a recent Athletic article I read, it seems like CJ Uzomah is absolutely in love with Joe Burrow. The background was that at the end of practice they had 11-on-11 running a 2-minute drill type of situation. He went 5-of-6 for 81 yards and a TD.
“He’s making all the right reads,” Uzomah continued. “He’s getting us in and out of all the right protections and making all the right checks. And certain checks, I didn’t even know we were allowed to check into. He’s like, ‘Why not? Go out there and do this. Come in here and do this.’ It’s been a lot of fun, honestly. It’s been a lot of fun to build a relationship with him, to build that chemistry with him and see how he operates and how he wants certain routes on certain coverages. He’s the real deal, I will say that.”
Again, not to get over-hyped on a rookie QB who isn't even going to get the benefit of preseason games, but better to see these kinds of stories than worries that he's not going to be ready. Even if we don't have a winning record this year, it could be a fun and exciting season.“I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting it, at least to the extent of what is going on,” he said. “I think just the normal check in and out of it – it’s an under front or an over front, two high, single high, their blitz – those are different than the checks that he’s making. I’m like, ‘Dang, he can see that right now?’ That is very impressive. I’m very impressed with the strides and the progress he’s made in such a short amount of time.”

I have us going 5-11 this season mainly based on a fairly tough schedule, not on our roster talent which I agree has improved.
And I know how Jmble feels, Colin Cowherd has us going 2-14 in his preseason predictions earlier today.

Mackensie Alexander DB, Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals CB Mackensie Alexander (personal) left training camp.
Unfortunately, Alexander's father is missing in Florida after leaving on a berry-picking excursion on Monday. Authorities are still searching, so Alexander understandably will be away from team facilities for the time being and it's unclear when he will return. The Bengals' season opener is on September 13 against the Chargers. We wish the Alexander family the best.
