Some good news....

[https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/news/ben ... after-otas]
In case anyone is concerned about clicking a link shared by B1 (and you probably should be), here's the main takeaway, a quote from our cornerbacks coach:
"He's a bishop. He can take it all away across the board," Jackson told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. "He's solid. Dependable, accountable. He's a jack of all trades and master of quite a few. Not all yet, but he works at it every day. He's always working on something. Whether it's footwork, whether its hands, whatever it is, he just minds his business and does what we ask him to do.

"The one thing about playing cornerback in this league is you have to find a scheme and an organization that fits you and I think he's found it here. He's that type of guy that wants to be on the ground floor of something that is on the way up."
I'd like a guy who can do more than just move diagonally, but I guess saying "He's a queen" might not have sounded quite right either. Maybe football coaches should avoid chess metaphors, I don't know.

Yeah, I caught that too. Perhaps the word "versatile" isn't in his vocabulary.

Shazbot!! :x

Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN)
The #Jets and OT Morgan Moses are making progress on a potential multi-year deal, per source. Nothing done but Jets considered favorite and have made a compelling push to sign the seven-year veteran. Other teams have been involved, too.

From the Athletic.... (Not a promising lot  )

Here is a look at the best free-agent tackles remaining (with their age as of Sept. 1):

Morgan Moses (30)

Arguably the best free agent still available at any position, Moses has played seven seasons in Washington with 96 consecutive starts. Among tackles who started at least eight games in 2020, Moses ranked 41st with a 70.8 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. His 84.7 run-blocking grade last year was a career high.

Mitchell Schwartz (32)

He had never missed a start in eight seasons with the Browns and Chiefs before suffering a back injury six games into the 2020 season. Schwartz has said he is considering retirement, but he’s also continuing to rehab from back surgery and should be healthy enough to play by the start of the season. In his two most recent full seasons, Schwartz was PFF’s ninth highest-graded pass blocker in 2018 and 13th in 2019.

Russell Okung (32)

The Bengals coaches never viewed Okung as an option when they were looking for a starting tackle in free agency in March, but bringing in the 11-year veteran as an injury contingency could be a different matter. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Okung’s play fell off in 2019, leading the Chargers to trade him to the Panthers. The No. 6 pick in the 2010 draft made just seven starts for Carolina last year because of groin and calf injuries.

Rick Wagner (31)

Another durable and dependable veteran in the mold of Moses, Wagner has appeared in 118 games with 96 starts for the Ravens, Lions and Packers. Last year in Green Bay was the first time since his rookie season in 2013 that he didn’t start at least 12 games. He ranked 23rd in pass blocking among qualifying tackles with a PFF grade of 69.3. Like Schwartz, Wagner is said to be contemplating retirement.

Demar Dotson (35)

After playing 11 seasons with the Buccaneers, Dotson missed out on the Super Bowl run last year when he signed a free-agent deal with the Broncos. According to reports, he’s received offers from multiple teams to play for the league minimum of $660,000 this season. He made eight starts last year and earned a 70.0 pass-blocking grade from PFF.

Dennis Kelly (31)

The nine-year veteran started all 16 games for the first time in his career in 2020, but he showed a marked dip in production in pass protection. PFF ranked Kelly 64th among qualifying tackles with a 60.2 grade, down from 77.4 in 2018 and 75.2 in 2019.

Marshall Newhouse (32)

He’s played for eight teams during his 10-year career, including the Bengals when he made five starts during the 2014 playoff run. But this is his second offseason as a street agent. The Titans signed Newhouse to their practice squad in November and elevated him to the active roster in December. He appeared in four games, with no starts.

Chaz Green (30)

Maybe the least likely candidate due to the shaky start to his career, Green also is the most intriguing as Bengals offensive line coach Frank Pollack held the same position in Dallas in 2015 when the Cowboys selected Green in the third round. Green has played for five teams during his short career, which is a giant red flag. But if Pollack and the Cowboys saw something in him in 2015, perhaps a reunion could be in store.

We could have afforded this.... :x

NFL Rumors (@nflrums)
#Jets are on the verge of signing Morgan Moses OT to a multi-year deal that would be around 2-3 M per season.

God I hope we re-sign this guy.... 8-)

Jessie Bates feels he a “core piece” for Bengals, hopes to stay beyond 2021
Posted by Josh Alper on June 18, 2021

There hasn’t been much to like about the Bengals’ results in recent seasons, but they have found a productive piece for their defense in safety Jessie Bates.

The 2018 second-round pick stepped right into the starting lineup in Cincinnati and he has not looked back. Bates has started all 48 games the Bengals have played the last three years and he’s posted more than 100 tackles each season. He’s also had nine interceptions, which makes it easy to see why he feels he’s become an essential part of the defense.

Bates’ contract is up after the 2021 season, but he said he would like to remain in that position for years to come.

“Obviously, I feel like I’m a core piece in Cincinnati,” Bates said, via Laurel Pfahler of the Dayton Daily News. “My family is three hours away, so I would love to be here. My main goal is to take that next level that I keep saying as a leader on this team. The money part of it will come. I just want to win. That’s all I care about is winning. The money part of it will come. Not just for me, but for everybody in this program.”

The next few weeks are often a time that teams talk to players about extensions, so something could happen before camp for Bates. If not, another year like his first three should put Bates in a good position to find that money with the Bengals or somewhere else.

I have a feeling they know what they have in this guy and they'll resign him. I think this is why we haven't seen more O-line moves thinking they are going to use the money to sign key guys like him.

While I tend to agree with both of you, after the Carl Lawson saga this offseason, I won't feel sure about it til his name is signed on the dotted line.
