Bengals working him out, per league source. Not huge news, but it is a pleasant thought to sign him and having him xucceed with us.

+1

I'm tired of filling our club with other teams rejects and has-beens. We've got to get over this idea that if a player was drafted high by somebody he must have talent and somehow we're going to bring it out of them.

SoP needs to realize that some players are just busts and that's all there is to it.....

I'm with you on that sentiment in general, but if there's nothing risked and any potential gain, why not? I doubt they're signing Sweed and saying "yep, #2 WR spot is now fixed." It's just a flyer on a guy who has talent and might now be desperate to save his career. If he sucks, he's cut. If he's good, good on us.

I really don't see the problem. :|

It's that almight "potential" that sucks Mike in. We can't draft or sign guys with production. We prefer high ceilings. Ugh! Sometimes it's better to get the guy that just gets the job done!

I wouldn't be so sure about that old friend. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if that's exactly how SoP and perhaps even Marvin himself feel about such a signing. How long did they go with low round draft picks and has-beens at the tight end position? And now with Safety?

This club has a history of covering gaping wounds with band-aids and moving along as if everything’s fine....

Oh, that's definitely true, and I'd agree that the move were exactly that if it was bringing Jerome Simpson back. But Limas Sweed is such a total shot in the dark, I don't see even our idiotic management believing that.

And by the way, our management hasn't been half bad lately. Maybe it's blind squirrel finding a nut or sun on a dog's ass or whatever, but it's been a pretty good year of decision making from the Bengals front office. I think they've earned at least a sliver of trust.

I view this as a Matt-Jones type signing. The guy had talent. Let's see if there is anything we can salvage. If not, let him go before the season starts. No harm no foul.

Sorry, I get your guys' points; I just don't see this as anything but a giant waste of time. Time better spent preparing for the draft and selecting undrafted free agents we might want to invite to camp afterward.

I just can't believe this coaching staff and tiny scouting dept. don't have better things to do this time of year than work out and assess other teams busts, has-beens and never weres....
