BENGALS TALK 🗣 (@BengalsTalk)
Watched the Jessie Bates interview on @nflnetwork and my takeaways:

•He wants to remain in Cincinnati
•He doesn’t have to be the highest paid at his position
•He doesn’t want to be franchise tagged
•He is an impressive person, still can’t believe he is only 24 years old.
If this team has turned a corner and wants to continually be competitive then we need to resign our own players like Bates. We should have learned from the Whitworth and others that these type of players are the future and cornerstones for this franchise. But we all know that...

His age impressesses me as well. Imagine being one of the best at your position, a leader, seasoned vet and just 24 years old...wowzer!
I was crazy back when being crazy really meant something.

Interwebs starting to gossip about Xavien Holland, CB, New England. Mike Hilton is Twitter recruiting again.
Xavien Howard is a CB in Miami who threatened to hold out last year and is basically in the same situation again this year. There was reports last year of a potential Bengals trade to get him before last season, but nothing ever came of it. His name popped up again around the trading deadline. I think it was just another one of those things that somebody floated that the Bengals should do.

He's under contract until 2024 and his cap is very manageable ($16M next season then $15 and $13M after that with $4M and $1.2M in dead cap if cut in the last 2 years). We would absolutely have to give up any blue chip OLs and go after the 2nd tier OLs like Moses and Corbett, but I'd be OK with that.

For what it's worth, I wasn't saying we should make a big play for him. I was just thinking this was the guy who Stripes was probably talking about.

If they got him, great. We can use another very good Cornerback, but if it's up to me, I'm still prioritizing bringing in a couple Free Agent Offensive Linemen and looking at CB in the draft.

Bates is being rumored to want a 5 year deal worth 70 Mill

Honestly, for him that's not bad.

That's a good deal for us honestly. I was thinking around 15 million a year for him.

That would put him right about where the Franchise Tag would have him.

The top Safety Contracts for 2022 in total cash are:

Justin Simmons - 15.1 mil 18.85 mil Cap hit
Jamal Adams - 14.44 mil 9.11 mil Cap hit
Kevin Byard - 12.5 mil 15.838 mil Cap hit
Landon Collins - 12 mil 16.2 mil Cap hit

If there's any truth to Bates wants, and it's reasonable, then let's get it done already.

Knowing Mikey like we all do I imagine he's thinking about 10 to 12 Mlll a year though. Prolly the hold up there.

These numbers are off, Jamal made 17 mi last season, and the #2 highest was 16.2. Just heard the numbers from 700wlw on drive home.
