Week 4 - PFF Scores

Post by Jmble » Mon Oct 04, 2021 11:26 am

Hey all, sorry it's been a few days since gameday, but I'm here now.

Me and Ace were at the game on Thursday. Great game to be at, even if it didn't feel like it for a while. Then watched the Bearcats win and mostly look good in Notre Dame. It's been a great few days for Cincinnati football.

Anyway, what you are all here for....

Burrow has improved again. Up from 79.9 to 86.1. He is currently 5th among 35 QBs. It appears the rankings have been updated to include Sundays' games.

For the Receivers:

Boyd up from 70.9 to 77.6. He is now 16th of 108 receivers.
Chase is up from 75.8 to 77.1. He is 18th of 108 receivers.
Tate also increased from 67.5 to 74.1.

Counting Higgins we now have four receivers rated at 73.5 or higher. Not bad at all.

Mixon also ticked up from 79.0 to 81.4.
Perine has had a little more playing time now and is sitting down at 53.9
In the nine snaps used, Evans has a 69.8. Respectable for the rookie being used in spot scenarios.

The Tight Ends

Uzomah jumped up with that performance on Thursday night. He's up from 55.3 to 68.5. He's now 18th among Tight Ends.
Sample isn't fairing as well. Dropped from 54.1 to 52.2.

The O-Line

Our buddy Trey Hopkins bounced back up minimally from 42.4 to 44.6. Pass Block is up from 24.9 to 35.8. He's ranked 31st out of 33 Centers.

Spain performed well enough to raise his score from 58.5 to 66.3. Not a bad jump. Still 26th of 75 Guards

Jackson Carmen didn't fair so well. He's down from 33.4 to 28.0 It's hard to analyze individual Offensive Linemen from the upper deck of the stadium, but I didn't see anything really standout that would have him that low. He does have two penalties in his two starts. No sacks allowed.

Su'a-Filo has a 50.0 for 63rd of 75 Guards

Riley Reiff improved again from 62.4 to 65.3 and Williams improved from 62.5 to 70.3.

Isaiah Prince in limited time (22 snaps) has an 88.9. He continues to look good when needed.

On the Defense

Eli Apple actually improved a bit this game. He's up from 36.5 to 43.3 making him 101 out of 107 Cornerbacks.

Hilton dropped from 63.5 to 59.6

Trae Waynes in his first action in a year and a half came in with a 55.2 on 53 snaps. I'm going to try not to grade him too harshly on his first game back. Hopefully if Awuzie gets back in there and Apple sees less time on the field it will also give Waynes a chance to improve.

The Safeties

No Bates this game, he is still sitting at 75.6. Vonn Bell was down a bit to 72.6. Still good for 14th among 82 Safeties

Brandon Wilson filled in for Bates and did an adequate job with a score of 61.9. He's obviously not Bates, but he was okay.

Linebackers.

This has been talked about a bit in the other thread. The rankings seem to be updated now with the other games that were played, so they are a little different than what B1 copied over earlier.

Logan wilson is now the 6th highest LB with a score of 76.8

Germaine Pratt is 15th with a score of 66.5

Davis-Gaither's score is still a nice 65.0 whish puts him at 18th of 79 So we have three LBS in the top 18 of the league.

DL

BJ Hill went back up from 77.1 to 79.1. He's currently good for 8th out of 117 defensive Linemen on only 97 snaps.

Ogunjobi dropped a bit this week from 59.2 to 58.6. He's now 74th of 117

Tupou dropped a bit but is still sitting at a 76.5 on 98 snaps making him number 13 out of 117.

DJ Reader moved up to an 80.9 making him number 6 out of 117 D Linemen.

So we also have three Defensive Linemen in the top 13 of 117 eligible players.

Edge Players

Hendrickson is up from 66.8 to 71.3 making him 39th of 103 Edge players

Hubbard increased again from 61.5 to 64.2

Cam Sample went up a bit from 52.0 to 53.9

And in limited snaps, Wyatt Ray has increased from 68.6 to 70.7.

As always if I missed anybody or you want more details on anybody, let me know.

this is all matching up really good with what we're seeing on the field.

Logan is a beast.

Our offense is producing, despite having very mediocre Oline play. Imagine if we fixed that.

This is good stuff. I've been watching Hill and he's playing good. He has 3 sacks already.

Sample is just Sample, I'm not expecting much from him at all and really never have. Just ashame we wasted a 2nd round pick on him.

I wonder if Carmen's low rating is a combination of being on the field but not having that many meaningful positive plays and then the penalties just killing his grade? Not sure how all that plays together, but it sure doesnt appear he's doing that poorly.

Maybe we think Carmen looks so good because his predecessors were so terrible it changed our expectations. :D

Curious how Burrow stacks up grade wise to Hurbert? Who are the 4 QB's in front of him?

That's easy.

1. Brady - 92.8
2. Tannehill - 90.0
3. Murray - 87.6
4. Jones - 86.9
5. Burrow - 86.1
6. Carr - 85.9
7. Cousins - 85.0
8. Herbert - 84.3

Now to be fair, Herbert and Carr don't play til tonight. Both were ahead of Burrow after three weeks. We will see what happens tonight.

While I think Herbert might be more talented Burrow has the right attitude and was the right pick for this team for sure.

Just 2 completely different qbs, in my opinion. Herbert reminds me of Ben where he stays in the shotgun most the time and has a great arm. Burrow is more of a technician, in my opinion, he's more old school type Qb. I think he's smarter than Herbert and honestly Herbert didn't go to a bad team when he was drafted. I've looked up their numbers and are alot similar to each other. I'm not bashing Herbert, I really really like him, alot! I don't think you could go wrong by drafting either if they were both available. I just think Herbert relies on his arm and burrow relies on his brain. Really that's the only difference.
