2023 Camp News & Notes

Post by Bengals1 » Mon Jul 24, 2023 6:55 pm

Charlie Goldsmith @CharlieG__
Some notes from Lou Anarumo:

-"We're not a new group."
-"Full confidence in Chido. He's moving great."
-A lot of focus on how the safeties gel together in camp.
-The Bengals have the ability to have one of the deeper defensive lines he has coached. They'll mix combos.

BENGALS TALK 🗣 @BengalsTalk
“Of the PUP players, it's believed practice squad tackle Devin Cochran has a season-ending knee injury, but it sounds like No. 1 cornerback Chidobe Awuzie (ACL) and tight end Mitchell Wilcox are expected to be activated fairly shortly…

Damn its good to be back!! I'll be at a camp practice either next Friday or Saturday. Fingers crossed I can get a Burrow autograph on my white 9 jersey.

This could take a bit then...

Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow apparently are waiting for each other to sign. The waiting game benefits the Chargers and Bengals.

Lord knows I've leveled plenty of criticism at Zac Taylor over the years but I'll say this for him, he learns from his mistakes...

Nope! Herbert sets the market for Burrow at a staggering 5 year $262mm deal.

I would say it is completely safe to assume that Higgins is gone next year. There is just no way you can squeeze that much money into three or four positions. No matter what happens this year, the band will look quite different next year with a few more rookies in the mix (and I'm ok with that).

#Bengals waste no time getting serious. Mini-scuffle in first 11-on-11. Orlando Brown in the middle of it.

Next play, Burrow deep ball to Tee over top of Sidney Jones and Nick Scott for what would have been a TD.

You can say that but Burrow came out today and flat out said they are going to keep the band together. Which means the Bengals better get that shit done or else! This isn't the same ol' Bengals I bet they find a way to get it done.

Hendrickson extended… not the news I was expecting but don’t hate it!
Waiting on burrow signing for £20m a year to enable winning 👍🏻

Paul Dehner Jr. @pauldehnerjr

The #Bengals sign Trey Hendrickson to a one-year extension through the 2025 season.

Makes sense for both sides for many reasons.

1. Hendrickson was a sitting duck next year on his deal. Second-largest cap hit, with almost no dead money if they moved on. Uneasy spot.

2. Hendrickson outperformed his current deal. Production far outpaced market for his 4/$60M. Deserved something.

3. #Bengals are hesitant w/ 3rd contracts because don't want to pay players into their 30s. This only adds his age 30 season, no more

4. Beyond giving Hendrickson security/money, it allows a re-organization as Bengals are splitting up the pies often referred to on Monday.

5. This isn't new. Team had convos with Hendrickson about his contract last year, never progressed.
BTW, my math neurons misfired, Hendrickson (12/5/1994) will be under contract through age 31 season. Sam Hubbard and Hendrickson stay on the same pace, both becoming free agents after the 2025 season now.
