One thing I think this team has been doing very well lately is drafting BPA but also considering how they fit into our schemes. Murphy is a great example of this, he fits the type of DL/Edge player we've been playing for the past few years. I look at a guy like Nolan Smith who is literally a freak of nature but just doesn't quite fit our scheme and understand why they passed on him for Murphy. I have trust in the plan and am excited to see what they do today in round 2 and 3.
100% Meat. Great point. Murphy fits the size and athletic profile they want as well as being the kind of high motor guy we want.

Really good break down of Murphy. 21 years old, tested out at the 97% of all D-Ends tested since 2000...

Here is Bengals pick.
28. Cincinnati Bengals: Myles Murphy, EDGE, Clemson — You can never have too many pass rushers, and now the Bengals have an athletic monster to play across from Trey Hendrickson for the long term. Murphy is an NFL-ready run defender who has the athleticism to be a strong No. 2 edge rusher. Grade: B
I’m not sure he’ll be “playing across from Trey Hendrickson for the long term,” as if Sam Hubbard doesn’t exist or something. More likely Trey would not be resigned, honestly.

But the real point is, you can’t have too many. D-line is best when they can rotate and stay fresh, not to mention how much it hurts not to have depth when there are injuries.
I agree it is very likely Sam will be a Bengal longer than Trey.

I can't imagine we'd be able to pay both DJ and Trey, I feel this is a long term replacement for Trey, but we'll have them together for a year or two.

Trey has the highest cap number next year at 17.8M on the last year of his deal. This gives alot of flex to potentially cut him and move 15 of that to Burrow/chase. The D has eaten up big contracts the last few years while cheap rookies held it down, and now it’s time for that to flip with big OL deals and pending monsters from burrow and chase

I can't think of a world where they would Cut Trey, more then likely just allow him to play out his contract and then they have his replacement with Murphy.

I can think of 17M reasons why when you have to come up with 50M+ a year to pay burrow

They can do both, and if you get rid of Trey were going to take a pretty good hit on our pass rush and I don't think for 1 minute they are interested in that.
