2022 Preseason Week 2 - Giants

Post by stripesincarolina » Sun Aug 21, 2022 2:18 pm

Ok, after all the Volson talk is out of the way, what are we looking for out of Wk 2?

Appears that almost all of our starters are sidelined until Wk 3 so not much to see there.

Charlie Goldsmith @CharlieG__
Like last week, Joe Burrow is going through some pregame conditioning. None of the starters are expected to play.
He's with Chase, Higgins, Boyd, Karras, Cappa, Williams, Mixon, Perine, Hurst, Hendrickson, Hubbard, Hill, Reader, Hendrickson, Wilson, Pratt, Awuzie, Hilton, Bell.

With all of our starters sitting it sounds like we barely have enough depth to finish this game. Tons of minor injuries.

For the overreacting on the OL last week ppl are quiet this week. Volson has looked very legit.

Watching but couldnt post. Yes, Volson could indeed beat out Cartman for this spot.

I've been watching Volson, he hasn't been perfect but seems to be doing good enough to win the job. I'm going to review the game if I can find it and try a to grade him. I did see a play where both guards pulled into each other it appears it was a MA (missed assignment) by the RG but need to see it again.

I know you can only do so much with playcalling in preseason, but good grief that last play call was hideous by Zac. I can think of a dozen other plays with a better chance at netting 15 yards than a bubble screen to Trent.

Whatever, I'm not sure we learned a lot other than Volson has potential, Allen actually looked like he knew what he was doing most of the time and had some zip on the ball, Lassiter probably just got himself cut dropping a bread basket 2 point conversion, and Chris Evans needs the ball more.

Paul Dehner Jr. @pauldehnerjr
Back to back plays the first real hiccups for Volson.

The first Volson and Hill pulled into each other. Might not have been him ,but one of the two was obv wrong.

On the next, he can't spot/pick-up the DB blitz and it ends in a sack of Brandon Allen.

Before that play, Volson had played really, really well. Done a nice job in run and pass game and been consistently solid. No pressures allowed.

There's going to be issues like the sack on third, but this night has been a major win for him thus far.
