I don't know how to evaluate one offensive tackle over another, but in looking I'm seeing a lot of people saying that Slater is the better day one starter and that Penile is the better overall talent.

I have no idea if this is true, but it's the only explanation I can find for Slater over Penile.
The only reason someone might say this is because of the lack of film on Sewell. I'll take some time to break down these two in the coming weeks but it's still very early. Lots of questions to be answered in FA and that will depend on the direction we take in the draft.

I like them bigger than that. I don't think these smaller guys will fair well in out division. But that's just me.
So you're saying you personally prefer bigger, heavier Peniles....?

I think it would be a nice change of pace if we took a known commodity RT in FA instead of drafting one knowing our streak of injured first round picks.

Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero)
The NFL informed clubs tonight they are prohibited from timing, testing, interviewing in-person or giving medical exams to any draft-eligible player at any location except a school’s pro day or all-star game this year because of ongoing concerns surrounding COVID-19, per source.

Mel Kiper released his first Mock of the offseason today.

1. Jacksonville - Trevor Lawrence
2. NY Jets - DeVonta Smith
3. Miami - Ja'Marr Chase
4. Atlanta - Zach Wilson
5. Cincinnati - Penei Sewell
This is all about protecting quarterback Joe Burrow, who will spend the offseason recovering from the torn left ACL and MCL he suffered in November. Burrow started 10 games, but it was clear that he wasn't comfortable behind a mediocre offensive line. The Bengals can take a step toward improvement by picking Sewell, an opt-out who was the 2019 Outland Trophy winner. He's the clear top offensive tackle in this class. Sewell could stay at left tackle while 2019 first-rounder Jonah Williams moves to the right side or to guard. I have compared Sewell to Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz, and Cincinnati should be thrilled to get another foundational player.

Here's a different look from Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus

1. Jacksonville - Trevor Lawrence
2. NYJ - Zach Wilson
3. Miami - Penei Sewell
4. Atlanta - Justin Fields
5. Cincinnati - Ja'Marr Chase
While Bengals fans would have loved Sewell to shore up the offensive line, Chase could end up being even better for their offense in the long term. He reunites with former LSU teammate Joe Burrow and gives the Bengals a solid route-runner who simply knows how to win at the catch point at each level of the field. Burrow does need better protection, but receivers who get open quickly also protect the quarterback, and Chase produced a 91.1 PFF grade in 2019 while averaging 21.2 yards per reception.
I've made it clear that I want Sewell, but I've also said before that I don't think Miami passes him up. Their Offensive Line is essentially as bad as ours and their Tackle situation may even be worse than the Bengals. I really believe that unless Miami makes the Deshaun Watson trade that they will jump on Sewell at 3.

It's going to be weird with no Combine or in person workouts. There won't be as much change in the overall draft rankings as we usually see in a year. There's always one or two guys that shoot up the rankings after the Combine.
