Take notes Marvin

Postby Aceking » February 5th, 2018, 11:11 am

Doug Pederson says coaching aggressively is the way to win the Super Bowl, coaching conservatively is the way to go 8-8

They didn't play to hold the lead. They kept the foot on the gas the whole time.

You don't post often Ace, but when you do, it's a quality post. Unfortunately I doubt Marvin is listening, or would agree that he has this problem. Marvin believes that a game plan is a FULL game plan. Whatever worked in the first half should work in the second half as long as everyone "does their jobs". Cause he's a Coach Immitating Douchebag.

Jim Tressel was successful with a conservatively called game. But you need a defense to support that plan. You also need an offense that can successfully move the ball conservatively. 3 yards and a cloud of dust or a short pass for 3 to 5 yards works, but you can't afford the 3 and outs. We failed to move the ball at all to often, conservative or aggressive doesn't matter if you can't get a first down. Our execution in general, offensively, was crap!

No way we can. That damn the torpedoes approach to the way Philly played that game on offense, including the decisions to go for it several times on 4th down (especially the one with 6 minutes left) - there is NO way that Marvin can coach that way. Literally, he can't wrap his mind around it. It's just not him.

Marvin can't even wrap his head around the idea of trying to score when you get the ball with two minutes left in the half.

Marvin thinking... Crap, we have the ball with two minutes left. Better run the ball so the other team doesn't get the ball back. Crap, we got 20 yards on third down with under 40 seconds left. I guess we better start trying to score.

Some coaches believe in taking risks and go for it. Some don't. Both strategies win. A conservative team can win but they have to have the team built for that. As I said, you have to move the ball. Even the best defenses wear down when they are on the field the entire game. To be conservative, we need to be able to run the ball and control the clock. Our line as currently built doesn't allow for that. The Ravens won with this strategy and so can we. I think we have the backs and receivers. We need extreme help on the line and maybe a better blocking TE (not sure on this one). Maybe we should bring back a traditional fullback to help with the run game. Marvin, however, is going to have to be a little less predictable at times just to keep opponents guessing. He doesn't to do it a lot. But once in a blue moon would be enough to make defenses plan for that trick play.
