If you really want to bring a tear to your eye go find "Missing Rings - The 88' Bengals." If you're not misty eyed by the end of that one you're not a real Bengal fan....

Giovani Bernard may not be ready for Week One
Posted by Josh Alper on June 12, 2017

The Bengals drafted running back Joe Mixon in the second round of this year’s draft in a move that’s sure to impact Giovani Bernard’s role on the team moving forward.

Bernard is going to have to get healthy enough to start playing in games before we’ll find out how much that role will change, however. Bernard tore his ACL last season and has not yet been cleared for a full return to football activities.

Geoff Hobson of the team’s website reports that Bernard should avoid going on the physically unable to perform list to start the season, but suggests that he may not make it back for the first game of the year. Hobson writes that the team likely doesn’t “want to rush him back into the first couple of regular-season games” and that Mixon would likely fill any third down needs until Bernard gets back.

There’s still a lot of time to go before any decisions need to be made on that front, but an impressive summer for Mixon would only make it easier for the Bengals to take their time getting Bernard back up to full speed.

Shoulder injury could keep John Ross out of start of training camp
Posted by Michael David Smith on June 13, 2017

Bengals rookie receiver John Ross broke the 40-yard dash record at the Scouting Combine while dealing with a shoulder injury that required surgery after the Combine. That surgery may require Ross to miss the start of training camp.

According to Bengals.com, Ross won’t be on the field “until early August or so.” The Bengals’ first training camp practice is July 29.

Ross’s 4.22-second 40-yard dash has created a lot of excitement around him, but he was viewed as a first-round prospect even before the Combine, based on his performance on the field in college at Washington.

The Bengals, however, will have to wait just a little while longer before they see him at full go on the practice field.

Bengals think Andre Smith can be a “terrific” guard
Posted by Josh Alper on June 23, 2017

The Bengals lost two starting offensive linemen as free agents this offseason, leaving them with openings at left tackle and right guard as they built their team for the 2017 season.

They filled one of those spots by reaching out to a former member of the team, although Andre Smith’s won’t be returning as part of the plan to replace Andrew Whitworth at left tackle. Smith played right tackle in his first tour with the Bengals, but is set to take over at right guard for Kevin Zeitler.

Smith said he’s noticed things move faster at guard, something that may be exacerbated by practicing against defensive tackle Geno Atkins, but offensive line coach Paul Alexander says the transition has been a successful one thus far.

“I think Andre has a chance to be terrific at guard,” Alexander said, via the team’s website. “He’s getting to start from the beginning this year with the base techniques and then learn the offense as he goes. If we all of the sudden picked him up a week before the season and said, ‘Go play right guard,’ I don’t think he could do it. But going through this progression I think he’ll be fine.”

If all goes well, the move would benefit both the Bengals and Smith personally as the shift could prove to be a career extender as he closes in on a decade as an NFL offensive lineman.

Bengals sign rookie guard Cameron Lee
The former Illinois State guard joins the Bengals with one month to go before training camp opens.
by Rebecca Toback@Rebecca_Toback Jun 27, 2017

The Cincinnati Bengals left town for summer vacation with just 89 men on the roster. That changed today as the team signed a rookie offensive lineman to compete for a roster spot this summer.

Guard Cameron Lee, a rookie free agent out of Illinois State, was signed on Tuesday.

Lee, a 6’6” 320 pound offensive lineman played in 39 games in four years at Illinois State (2013-16), with starts in all 25 games his junior and senior seasons.

He originally signed as a college free agent with the New Orleans Saints after the 2017 NFL Draft but was released on June 15.

The guard position is somewhat of a question mark for the Bengals this season. Clint Boling will hold down his starting spot at left guard, but the right guard position was vacated by Kevin Zeitler this offseason and there will be a competition to see who takes over his spot.
