The reason we've gotten value for them is because of their issues. Considering many 3rd or later picks never make it. The risk was worth the reward and I don't fault Lewis for trying. Unfortunately with linebackers, Lewis has missed more than he has hit.

That's with any position in the NFL honestly there's always more misses then hits, let's face it. I'll give him credit that we hit a lot more than we have in the past.

To be fair, his draft record has improved dramatically over the past 4 years or so. I imagine that's about the time SoP finally agreed to increase the scouting department....

Still one of the smallest departments. His drafts have been mostly good for ten years, going back to 2006 when he drafted Joseph, Whit, Rucker, Peko, and Brooks. 2007&2008 yielded only two quality players. Every other draft has yielded core players and pro bowlers. Add in undrafted FAs like Rey and Burfict and bargain cast offs from other teams like Pac man and Newman, and this staff proves to be one if the best.

Don't forget Dhani Jones who anchored our linebacking corps for several years. He was a nice free agent pick up.

I was always jealous of the Ravens and Steelers because they had a system and drafted players to fit it. Now we have one. Pretty much everyone of us can tell what positions are prioritized by the team. Makes drafting easier.

#Bengals claim 2016 3rd round draft pick CB KeiVarae Russell off waivers; OL Trey Hopkins waived. Russell was a third-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs this year. They just let him go. Product of Notre Dame. Regardless of what went wrong with Russell in KC, not often you pick up a third-round pick from this year off the street.

Let's hope this gives them more depth in the defensive backfield. They have shown they can develop some corners so hopefully this works out for them.
Hear them Bengals growling mean and angry.....

From everything I've read, there doesn't seem to be so much a character concern but the guy could not learn the KC playbook and lost his job to overachieving DBs with less draft pedigree.

Tyler Eifert returns to practice field, on a limited basis
Posted by Darin Gantt on September 21, 2016

Tyler Eifert probably isn’t going to play this week, but he’s taking another step toward his targeted return in Week Four.

According to Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com, the Bengals tight end said he is going to practice today on a limited basis, his first action with the team since his ankle surgery in May.

Eifert has been running routes on a side field in recent weeks, but he’s gradually increasing his workload.

He hasn’t practiced since injuring his ankle in the Pro Bowl, so it’s unlikely he’d go straight from limited work to a game.
