This should be a more exciting preseason schedule then most years. I bet SoP is happy since the Jets and Packers will sell more tickets then most teams.
A nationally-televised game at Atlanta, Tim Tebow’s debut as a Jet and games against Aaron Rodgers and possibly Andrew Luck are part of the Bengals preseason schedule, which was released by the league today.
The Bengals got a television date after making the playoffs for the second time in three seasons last year. It will be on Fox on Aug. 16 and marks the first time they will face the Falcons in the preseason since 2007. That also was a nationally televised game but is remembered more because that was the day when Michael Vick was sentenced to prison in Atlanta for his role in a dog-fighting ring.
“We’re excited with the lineup we have and we think our fans will enjoy it,” said Bengals executive vice-president Katie Blackburn. “It should help generate high interest for our young team that reached the playoffs last season. Our home games are a nice complement to what we feel is a very attractive list of regular season home opponents.”
The Bengals will open the preseason at home for the first time since 2006 and will face the Jets, who traded for Tebow. Two years ago, Tebow’s first snaps as an NFL player took place here in a Week 2 preseason game against Denver. Tebow led the Broncos to a late touchdown on the last play of the game.
After facing Atlanta, the Bengals return to Paul Brown Stadium to face Green Bay. The Packers, who are making a preseason appearance here for the first time since 2006, had the NFL’s best regular season record (15-1) last season and QB Aaron Rodgers was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. With the Reds having a weekend series against St. Louis, the game is likely to take place on Thursday, Aug. 23.
The Bengals will then close the preseason at Indianapolis, which marks the 20th time in the last 21 years that has happened. It is likely to feature Luck, who is expected to be the No. 1 overall selection later this month in the draft. The Bengals lead the preseason series 13-7.
The Jets, Packers and Colts games will be televised on the Bengals Preseason TV Network, including Cincinnati’s Local12 (WKRC-TV). All four games will be on the Bengals Radio Network, led by Cincinnati flagships WCKY-AM (ESPN 1530) and WEBN-FM (102.7).
